EXTRA TIPS

When you set up two-factor authentication on Instagram, you’ll be asked to choose one of two security methods:
  • CODES GENERATED BY EXTERNAL CODING APP
  • TEXT MESSAGES (SMS) FROM YOUR MOBILE PHONE
You’ll need to have at least one of these set up in order to use two-factor authentication.

Remember you will need to use the code only when you log into your account from a different device, like your partner’s laptop or your friend phone – as they will be treated at first as suspicious attempt to hack into your account.  If you log in into your account on your phone or laptop you’ll only be asked to use the code once. When you do it, these devices will be treated as “Trusted” – you basically forget that you had set up this feature on.

Extra Tip #1 – KEEP YOUR BACK UP CODES SAFE!

You can use them when you lose your phone or you can’t use authetication app to generate the code.
Each of the codes will allow you to get back into your account once. But you can get new ones, as long as you have the last one from the list free to use.
Best if you can print them out or write down! If you only keep them on your phone and have your phone stolen guess what…

Extra Tip  #2 – I RECOMMEND USING BOTH SMS SECURITY CODE AND EXTERNAL CODE GENERATION APP

These are my two most used application, which you can download on your phone:
  • Google Authenticator
  • Authy
